Co-designing the next NSW Carers Strategy (2020-2030)

The NSW Government is engaging with carers and other stakeholders to co-design the next ten year strategy for NSW. We are encouraging all carers in NSW to contribute to the strategy.

You can provide your input by:

  • Completing our Carers Survey– designed for individual carers to share their views. You can complete the survey online or print out the survey as a PDF and send it to the NSW Carers team. Details of where to send the survey are included in the PDF.
  • Attending a co-design workshop – information about future workshops will be available on this page in late 2019
  • Facilitating a local conversation about carers’ needs and experiences, using the Conversation Tool kit

We will also be developing another survey in 2020, and there will be future opportunities to provide your written submission.   All opportunities to contribute to our strategy will be shared on this page.

The current NSW Carers Strategy 2014-19

This is a five-year plan to improve the position of carers in NSW. The strategy was designed to deliver better services and support for carers across NSW. It contains practical approaches that can make a real difference in carers’ lives, not only in the care they provide, but in important areas such as employment, education and health and wellbeing.

During the co-design FACS brought hundreds of peoples’ ideas together through collaborative workshops, the NSW Ministerial Carers Strategy Summit and Have Your Say online consultations. We heard from more than 2,500 people, mostly carers, who shared their ideas on how government agencies, business and community groups could better support carers.

The strategy was implemented by government, non-government organisations and private businesses in partnerships. The Department of Communities as Justice (DCJ), formerly known as the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS), was the lead agency for the Strategy and led the development of the Strategy, with assistance from the Ministry of Health and Carers NSW.
