Lower and Upper Hunter Aboriginal Youth Homelessness Service
This service operating as Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation, supports young Aboriginal people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Cessnock, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Singleton and Upper Hunter Local Government Areas.
This service supports young people to remain safely in their existing housing, or where appropriate, use a range of approaches to assist them to secure and sustain stable housing.
It provides client-centred, culturally appropriate homelessness support, including prevention and early intervention, rapid rehousing, crisis and transition accommodation, and intensive responses for Aboriginal young people with complex needs or leaving care or other institutions.
Once accommodation has been secured, young people will receive post-crisis support to assist them to maintain the accommodation. Support will also be provided by intensive case management to address the issues that have led young people becoming homeless. A key focus of this service is to ensure young Aboriginal people will be supported to access, maintain or re-enter education, training and/or employment.
