Southern Youth Homelessness Support Service

This service operating as Southern Youth & Family Services supports young people ages 16 to 25 years old who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

It provides early intervention and prevention through outreach to sustain existing accommodation arrangement (e.g with family or friends). It also provides supported crisis and transitional accommodation with an emphasis on existing the young person into a more stable housing options and supporting them to live independently. Post-crisis support is also provided to help clients resolve any issues that caused their homelessness in order to prevent future episodes.

It will ensure young people who become homeless are rapidly and safely rehoused and supported to access stable housing. Young people will be supported through case management to secure long-term sustainable housing. This service also provides a youth refuge.

A key focus of his service is to support and facilitate young people’s access to education, training and employment services.

The service has a strong focus on responses for Aboriginal young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless and is accessible to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
