Wilcannia Young People, Women and Families Homelessness and Housing Support Service
This service supports Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal young people between 16 to 25 years old, women and families with children, including those escaping domestic and family violence, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The service supports clients to access crisis accommodation, transitional housing, short-term and medium-term accommodation for women with or without children. It has a strong focus on prevention and early intervention to support people whose tenancies are at risk, to sustain those tenancies. It also provides outreach and post-crisis support.
It supports and facilitates young people’s access to education, training, and employment services.
The service has a strong focus on responses for Aboriginal young people, women, and families. It includes a Safe House for women and children to go to on a temporary basis to avoid violence and to provide a safe place away from domestic and family violence.
This service includes a women's refuge which predominantly supports Aboriginal people:
