Target 9a:
The Understanding mobility as a key driver of overcrowding and other housing issues project is a Department of Communities and Justice - Homes NSW led NSW Government Closing the Gap initiative which aimed to prove or disprove the hypothesis that mobility was a key driver of overcrowding and other housing issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in social housing in NSW.
This initiative contributes towards CtG Target 9A: By 2031, increase the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in appropriately sized (not overcrowded) housing to 88 per cent.
The final report makes five client service delivery recommendations for DCJ HOMES NSW to better support mobility that are practical and achievable; and four built environment recommendations to better support mobility that will be reported to asset owners for consideration.
One of the commitments of the project team was to publish:
- final report PDF, 22973.68 KB
- Closing the Loop Report and Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance Plan PDF, 21145.03 KB, and
- DCJ’s response to the report PDF, 1277.65 KB.
DCJ Homes NSW will formally partner with the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) to implement recommendations.
