Protocol for Homeless People in Public Places Implementation Guidelines
The Protocol for Homeless People in Public Places Implementation Guidelines (the Guidelines) are a tool to assist workers use the principles of the Protocol and improve their engagements and support to people in public places. The Guidelines also help workers to develop empathy and understanding for the diverse experiences and needs of people experiencing homelessness.
The Guidelines include 18 appendices that provide best practice strategies for engaging people with diverse needs and circumstances, in addition to statewide resources to support a person if assistance is requested. Workers are encouraged to refer to multiple appendices when providing support to people experiencing homelessness due to the intersectionality of a person’s needs.
The Guidelines were developed through a co-design process with StreetCare, the Public Interest Advocacy Centre’s lived experience advisory group, and contributions from over 32 signatories and subject matter experts.
