Active Support is a way for people with disability to engage in meaningful everyday activities of their choice, with the amount of support they need. Active Support has been shown to improve the quality of life of people with disability and increase work satisfaction for disability service staff. These six short videos show how disability service staff and the community can expand someone’s world by using an Active Support Approach.

Fran’s carer talks about the importance of including Fran in everyday activities, which makes her happy and engaged.

Carissa’s carer talks about involving Carissa in daily tasks, which promotes her independence and brightens her day.

People with disability need to be included and more involved, so they feel valued and understood.

Being connected in our community assists us all in building positive relationships and experiences and that of course includes people with disability, their carers and families. This short film promotes the inclusion of people with disability within the community, to be accepted and included just like everyone else.

Life is richer when you make connections. Connections with people, with work or with things you love. For some people, connections can be difficult to make – and if someone isn’t being understood or included, they might just feel like giving up all together. But we can help people feel included and involved – watch this short, 1 minute video about accepting people for who they are.

"This is how Active Support Works – Expand Someone’s World” shows how disability support workers can implement Active Support – an evidence based approach shown to improve the quality of life of people with disability and increase work satisfaction of the staff supporting them.
