Where affordable housing is needed - resources

The NSW government has developed resources which can help a council to understand the affordable housing need in its local area, and to develop housing plans. Some of these include:

The Local Government Housing Kit - which has useful information about how to prepare housing strategies and a wide range of resources, ideas and strategies for councils to consider and include

The Local Government Housing Kit Database (using 2021 Census data) – which supports the Kit and provides basic quantitative information on housing and housing-related matters by local government area. This database provides data on affordable housing and low income earners which is not readily available elsewhere

Housing snapshots – which provide detailed information on housing need by District, Region and local government area, including data on housing demand, the housing market generally, housing supply and the housing gaps, with emphasis on affordable housing and the needs of lower and moderate income households

Rent and Sales Report – which contains data on NSW rent movements, and is updated quarterly

NSW Social Housing Assistance Commissioning Data Report – which contains a NSW wide overview of social housing assistance, including applications for social housing, social housing tenancies and private market assistance.
