Why do you collect my personal information?
In order to provide you with assistance when we talk to you at a housing office, pop-up housing office or street patrol, DCJ will need to collect some of your personal information to confirm your proof of identity and work out what type of assistance you are eligible to receive.
We might also use your information – in a way that doesn’t identify you – to improve our services.
We will either collect information directly from you or from a person or organisation you have authorised to provide information on your behalf.
What information do you collect?
We only collect personal information that is directly related to finding out what services you need or the services we are providing to you. If you have lived in social housing before, this might include information about your former tenancy.
How do you use the information?
When we gather information from you, you must agree for us to record, store and share it. We may share it with relevant agencies such as community and Aboriginal housing, so they can assess your eligibility for social housing and provide you with services, or DCJ-funded homelessness services.
Do I have a say in how you use my information?
You can agree to us using your information by signing the Client Consent Form. If you can’t sign it, we can also record your consent electronically or in writing, or a witness can sign to confirm you have given consent.
When giving consent, you should let us know if you feel your information is sensitive or could impact on your safety.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. If you do this, we will tell other agencies they can no longer use your information.
Is my information in safe hands?
DCJ and the homelessness service providers we fund have a responsibility to collect and manage your information correctly and meet the requirements of NSW privacy legislation.
DCJ is legally authorised to disclose information to outside bodies in certain circumstances.
