Inner City Local Allocation Strategy

DCJ has developed an Inner City Local Allocation Strategy for DCJ properties in Redfern, Waterloo, Surry Hills and Glebe.

The purpose of a Local Allocation Strategy is to enhance the sustainability of communities by addressing specific community issues or needs.

What does this mean to me?

If you are applying to live in the Inner City locations of Redfern, Waterloo, Surry Hills and Glebe, DCJ will require that you undergo a criminal record check that is conducted by NSW Police. The check will look at convictions relating to drug manufacture and/or drug supply within the past 5 years.

When it is close to the time of you receiving an offer of a DCJ property we will write to you requesting that you complete a consent authority form.

What if I have convictions relating to drug manufacture and/or drug supply?

If you have a record of criminal convictions relating to drug manufacture and/or drug supply within the past 5 years, you will not be offered a property in Redfern, Waterloo, Surry Hills or Glebe. However, you will be offered a property in other Inner City locations.

What if I need to live in these areas?

There could be some people who may have a valid reason for needing to live in these locations. In these instances, DCJ will talk to you about your options.

Do I have to consent to the check?

No. If you don’t consent to the check DCJ will not offer you a property in Redfern, Waterloo, Surry Hills or Glebe. However, you will be offered a property in other Inner City locations.

How do I give my consent?

You can give your consent by completing the DCJ consent authority form and returning it:

What if I disagree with DCJ' decision?

If you believe we have made the wrong decision or you want to raise specific circumstances or concerns, you should first discuss your concerns with the person who made the decision or another DCJ staff member. If you are still not satisfied, you can ask for the decision to be reviewed. To do this, fill in the review of decisions form that is available from our website or any local DCJ Housing office. Review of decisions forms can be emailed to innercitysupport@facs.nsw.gov.au or returned to a local DCJ Housing office.

We will consider individual circumstances where you have a compelling need to live in this location, for example because of a medical need, or you are escaping domestic violence.
